Students select 3 teacher-sponsored clubs to participate in when there's a Club Day. Interests range from cooking to gaming to diamond art.

Students who join Art Club complete various projects during their monthly meetings to promote upcoming school events, among other things. 

In January, for example, Art Club members created decorations and posters for Book Fair to coordinate with the theme "Fall in Love with Books", which was held during the week of Valentine's Day in the library.  At the February meeting, they decorated the sidewalks with chalk paint to promote the Book Fair, which was coming later that week.

Students who join Reading Club meet on Club Day each month to sit on comfy chairs in the library and curl up with a book of their choice to read silently for 30 minutes.   

Not only is Sustained Silent Reading enjoyable, it also improves comprehension and attention span.  Students in Reading Club love being able to have uninterrupted time to really get into a storyline.

Reading Club members are also given opportunities to give brief book talks on their selected books and build a community of readers.

Students who are nominated to serve on the PBIS Committee and accept the nomination meet on Club Day to determine, plan, and give feedback on the rewards that are offered throughout the school year.

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. Students who do not have infractions or referrals for a nine-week period are invited to participate in PBIS activities during electives at the end of that period.  These rewards is not tied to grades, but rather to positive behaviors.  The photo shows students participating in a PBIS activity in the gym.

Yearbook Club members meet during Club Day to create our school yearbook. 

Students take, select, and organize photos for the school yearbook. They also select formats and designs for pages to make the yearbook attractive and practice good writing skills to further capture the school year in book form.  For more information about Yearbook Club, contact the sponsor: Elaina.Hoover@apsb.org.

Students complete STEM activities and challenges after school in Science Club, which meets twice monthly.

Students interested in Youth Legislature participate in meetings and prepare to be mock representatives at the Louisiana Youth Legislature in March.
